Pusey House 2022 Theological Conference
We invite the readers of Living Church to consider attending the Pusey House 2022 Theological Conference on 'The Descent of the Dove', held between July 4-6, 2022 (Register here, for digital or in-person attendance).
Located in the heart of Oxford, Pusey House was founded to be "a house of sacred learning", dedicated to the memory of the Revd Professor E.B. Pusey, Regius Professor of Hebrew at the University of Oxford. The House is a place where theological study is encouraged alongside a community of worship and prayer. Drawing on the tradition of renewal that inspired the Oxford Movement, we seek to build up a community where a lively and reasonable faith is nourished by the beauty of the liturgy to form disciples in Christ for service in the Church and in the world.
We currently offer year-round liturgical provisions, internships for those considering ordained ministry in the Church of England, professional liturgical music (organ and choir), a large library for the use of anyone in or around Oxford, student programming that involves around 200 students per week of term in study groups, morning and evening prayer, liturgy, and academic lectures and seminars -- all that whilst remaining an informal Anglo-Catholic Chaplaincy to Oxford University.
Theological Conference
The 2022 Pusey House Theological Conference is organized with our new Centre for Theology, Law, and Culture (more information here).
This year's conference is titled Descent of the Dove: Knowing and Loving in Spirit and Truth (tickets available here).
It will consider the person and work of the Holy Spirit, and the transformations which arise from knowledge in, faith in, and encounter with Him. The conference will be held at Oxford from Monday 4th – Wednesday 6th July 2022. Alongside the academic programme of the conference, there will be opportunities to share in worship in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England.
Confirmed Speakers include: Lewis Ayres, Richard Conrad, Susan Gillingham, Malcolm Guite, Carol Harrison, Karen Kilby, Matthew Levering, Jack Levison, Andrew Louth, John McGuckin, Oliver O’Donovan, Marcus Plested, Ephraim Radner, Gary Thorne, Graham Tomlin, Robin Ward, Rowan Williams, Judith Wolfe, and N.T. Wright.
Schedule: The conference will start at 2 pm on Monday 4 July, preceded by High Mass with sermon at 11 am, and will conclude on Wednesday 6 July after a summing up address by Rowan Williams, followed by Choral Evensong and sermon at 6:00 pm.
The Centre is an academic hub dedicated to enriching contemporary intellectual and cultural life by a rigorous engagement with Theology and Philosophy.
Based at Pusey House, the Centre draws upon Oxford’s longstanding and exceptional scholarship in Law and the Humanities, and in particular upon the Catholic tradition as received in the Church of England.
As a place of public theology, the Centre hosts colloquia, lectures, and seminars, and supports scholars and scholarship in the pursuit of truth within the academy, and for the renewal of the Church within a pluralistic society.
The community of Pusey House exists far beyond its chapel walls. We are so lucky to have a vibrant community of Friends, whose lives Pusey House has touched in some way.
Friends’ Membership offers many benefits, including a newsletter, an invitation to the annual Friends’ Festival in Oxford (June, this year), early bird booking for the theological conference and for social events.
For Americans, it is possible to give to Pusey House and receive a tax deduction, by routing your donation through Americans for Oxford. More information is available through our Support and Donate page: http://www.puseyhouse.org.uk/support--donate.html
