Dear friend,

The Amazon has been in the news a lot recently.

Devastating fires , escalating deforestation, illegal logging… every day there seems to be more bad news.

But there are brave and inspiring people on the frontline fighting to protect the forest. We work in partnership with members of the Guajajara tribe in Brazil, who have formed the “Guardians of the Amazon” – they risk their lives patrolling the forest and defending their land from illegal invaders.

The risks they face cannot be overstated – earlier this month, we received the

heartbreaking news that our good friend, Paulo Paulino Guajajara, was murdered by armed invaders for defending the forest he loved. But the Guardians will never give up, and neither will we.

You might remember that a few months ago, the Guajajara released

exclusive video footage of one of their uncontacted Awá neighbors.*

They asked us to share it with the world to highlight the urgent need to protect the forest, so we wasted no time.

The video made a huge splash, drawing much needed attention to the threats facing the Awá, the Amazon and the vital work of the Guardians.

Since then, we’ve received many heart-warming messages of support and thanks from the Guajajara. I want to share just a few of them today – after all, you make our work possible.

Flay Guajajara, Midia India: “It's an honor… to know that the video made an impact in this big world. This is really important for the protection of our land. You're always here, backing us.”

Fabiana Guajajara: “I saw the news. It really moved me. It made me want to live and fight for 1000 more years.”

Antonio Guajajara: “This media coverage helps us show the world what the Awá are going through, and also what all indigenous peoples in Brazil are going through… We cannot keep quiet. So thank you very much.”

Olimpio Guajajara,Coordinator of the Guardians of the Amazon: “This is exactly what we're fighting for... We'll do even more work to protect the Arariboia indigenous territory, especially for the uncontacted Awá. Thank you for backing the Guardians' work.”

*The Awá are indigenous people living in the northeastern Amazon rainforest. While some have contact with outsiders, others don’t. They’re some of the most vulnerable people on the planet.

P.S. Unlike many NGOs, we reject government funding so our integrity is never compromised. We rely entirely on your donations to keep fighting for tribal peoples worldwide. Please
