Dear John,
John Kalenzi has been the Country Director of African Evangelistic Enterprise (AEE) Rwanda since 2008.
For AEE Rwanda the Community Transformation Group (CTG), remains the foundation of their work. With a comprehensive approach where the whole community is strengthened, not just the group or its individual members.
The Rwanda team have also been working with Bible Society of Australia, running a 3-year Literature and Trauma healing project, which will come to an end in Dec 2023 after 3 years. The project aims to impact 12 000 people per year. For this year alone they have already worked with 3,709 youths who are now part of 28 community-based literacy improvement, healing and reconciliation clubs.
Mission preparation for 2022 is advancing well and several planning meetings and training with church leaders have already taken place.
Dufatanye is one of the Community Transformation groups formed in 2018. The name means “support each other”. Through their savings they all have paid health insurance; they have rented land to farm produce for their own consumption and for sale at the market. Through mutual assistance they bought livestock and together they bought knitting machines to make clothes for sale to the community. During the 2021 COVID-19 lockdowns, they moved their clothing production into their homes, spending the lockdown period building up stock of clothes that are selling now that they are out of lockdown. Being in a group was essential during the difficult times of the pandemic to keep each other going and helping households that struggled.
Yours in Christ,
Jorge Rodrigues
