Together through AIPAC, we work to keep Israel safe, strong and secure with America forever by its side. We carry with us a tremendous responsibility, especially as the Jewish state confronts growing security threats and an emboldened Iran.

Yet the challenges to Israel’s security aren’t limited to the kinetic dangers posed by enemy regimes. They also include those who seek to fundamentally change the nature of the U.S.-Israel relationship, who seek to undermine America’s partnership with our democratic ally, and some who want to end the Jewish State of Israel.

We have seen in recent years that those nefarious views have entered the halls of Congress.

They accuse Israel of “apartheid” and being “racist” from the House floor. They oppose security assistance to Israel. They even oppose missile defense funding that helps protect civilians and avoid war.

This anti-Israel squad of members is seeking to grow their ranks.

Across the country, candidates who share these anti-Israel views are running for office. While small in number, they carry a megaphone that could have real implications for Israel’s security.

To keep Israel safe, anti-Israel candidates for Congress must be defeated.

AIPAC is supporting a new Super PAC—United Democracy Project—that will spend significant resources to help defeat anti-Israel candidates. It will choose races solely on the basis of whether a candidate is anti-Israel and will do damage to the U.S.-Israel relationship.

In most cases, United Democracy Project will engage in primary races to oppose an anti-Israel candidate and support a friend of the U.S.-Israel relationship from the same political party.

United Democracy Project, like all Super PACs, can raise unlimited amounts of money from both individuals and organizations and spend those resources to defeat or support candidates, as long as it doesn’t coordinate with a candidate’s campaign.

While Israel is a galvanizing issue for our community, and Americans strongly support the U.S.-Israel relationship, Israel is not usually the defining issue in a political campaign. As such, the Super PAC will focus on matters that are of the greatest relevance to voters in a given district—including ads about a particular candidate’s qualifications or issues pivotal to the district’s voters.

As with any political battle, when you work to defeat someone, you can expect they’ll respond in kind—and worse. Our community will be attacked with outrageous assaults.

We can expect to hear hateful, noxious accusations about our organization and our work together. These charges can sting, and the reverberations will be felt across the dinner table and on social media.

But they are not true.

Our conviction will be challenged. But we must persevere in order to keep Israel safe and America strong. We proudly fight for what we believe, and do so by confidently exercising our First Amendment right to participate in our democracy. And when we exercise that right, when we speak up, we can defeat those who seek to undermine the U.S.-Israel relationship.

In the past, we have not directly engaged in this way, preferring only to stand by our friends to ensure their success. We will continue to do that as well. But today, as we face a threat to the enduring bonds between the United States and Israel, we will utilize every legitimate political tool, including our support for United Democracy Project, to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship.

We will succeed in this mission. Israel’s future and America’s future depend on it.

The mission of AIPAC is to encourage and persuade the U.S. government to enact specific policies that create a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship with our ally Israel.
