Subject: Betsy DeVos is failing our public schools
To: Team Tom

John -

Today in Montana over 130,000 students are enrolled in K-12 public schools. Every day, thousands of Montana’s children enter the classroom to learn and grow. It’s important that children have a champion - an adult that believes in them and tells them that they are going to succeed. A teacher, a coach, a school administrator.

If the adults don’t believe in the children, then the children won’t believe in themselves. This is why it is extremely damaging to have the leader of our entire education system be someone who has absolutely no faith in our schools at all - Betsy DeVos.

In a 2015 interview Betsy DeVos called the public school system “a dead end… a closed market.” DeVos has NEVER attended a public school. DeVos’ children have never attended public school. She is a billionaire who prioritizes gutting the Department of Education and diverting public school funding to unaccountable private, charter, and religious schools. Her ultimate goal? Privatizing public schools altogether.

DeVos has dedicated her career as Secretary of Education to cutting funding to vital programs such as the Special Olympics, early childhood education, and sexual assault awareness and prevention. She is only hurting our children and their futures.
