Hello John,
In Governor Doug Ducey’s latest action to support Arizona kids ([link removed]) and strengthen their education inside and outside of the classroom, the Governor signed a bill yesterday providing kids with a moment of silence in their school day.

The time of contemplation will allow children to reflect, meditate, pray and prepare for the day ahead. Watch the bill signing ([link removed]) below.

Arizona ([link removed]) Republican Gov. Doug Ducey ([link removed]) signed a bill Tuesday that will provide students the opportunity to pray ([link removed]) or have a moment of meditation while at school.

The legislation ([link removed]) , H.B. 2707 ([link removed]) , was introduced on Feb. 15 by state Rep. Alma Hernandez and requires all K-12 public and charter schools ([link removed]) to set aside one to two minutes during each school day for students to take a moment of silence.

“Arizona kids deserve the opportunity to take time every day at school to reflect, meditate, pray, prepare for the day ahead or anything they — and their parents — choose. H.B. 2707 will make that happen,” Ducey said.

Ducey also thanked Hernandez, community members, and religious leaders for their work on the bill, saying it will “strengthen students’ well-being and benefit kids of all faiths.”

“Giving students a moment every school day to pray, gather their thoughts, reflect, or anything they choose to do will help them focus and strengthen their mental and emotional health,” Hernandez said ([link removed]) while thanking those who helped to support the bill.

Hernandez specifically thanked members of the Jewish community following the bill’s passing in the state Senate on April 6.

“As we’re working to get Arizona kids refocused in the classroom, we should also work to get them refocused emotionally,” Ducey added. “That’s exactly what H.B. 2707 does, ensuring all schools set aside time every day for students to engage in a moment of silence.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a similar bill ([link removed]) in June 2021.
