This luncheon is also important because it comes at a crucial moment in the fight to end gun violence. In Washington, the passage of high-capacity magazine restrictions this year marks an enormous victory and a turning point in our work. Continued inaction at the federal level, underscores that state-based progress remains the most effective strategy for saving lives from preventable gun violence. And every day, we are met with new reminders of how important action is, from the reckless permitless carry laws sweeping the country to the continued surge in gun injuries and deaths. This work has never been more important.
