I’m proud to announce that since I took office as the People’s Attorney, my team and I have delivered more than $1 billion back to Washingtonians by making powerful interests pay for their illegal conduct.
Much of this money goes directly into the pockets of Washingtonians. We send out thousands of checks every year. In addition, these payments support local non-profits, tribal governments, and public programs that help Washingtonians.
For example, the $196 million my office recently won from big corporations for their role in the opioid crisis will fund treatment and other strategies to address the opioid epidemic. I held Monsanto accountable for harming our environment and directed $60 million for Orca and salmon recovery. We won Medicaid fraud cases and directed $150 million to increase access to affordable health care.
Our work on behalf of the people recovers $40 for Washingtonians from every $1 we receive in state funding — now that’s an efficient and effective government agency!
