How you have helped people forced to flee in Ukraine and neighbouring countries

Dear John,

On behalf of all of us at UNHCR, we want to thank you for your support and solidarity with people forced to flee in this crisis. The response from individuals like you, the private sector and governments has been incredible. This support has enabled us to provide life-saving assistance and protection to those displaced by the war in Ukraine, as well as some of the millions of refugees seeking safety across borders. Your continued support to people forced to flee is as important today as it has ever been.

With your help, up to 31 March inside Ukraine we have been able to provide:

  • Over 70 trucks of emergency aid into Ukraine from Poland, including blankets, warm clothes, and plastic sheeting
  • 154,000 people with essential supplies, including hygiene items, blankets, food, and mattresses and sleeping mats
  • 34,000 people with emergency cash assistance payments so that they can buy the essentials they need
  • Over 11,800 people with emergency shelter kits and assistance to repair their homes
  • 1.5 tonnes of food to areas under heavy shelling such as Sievierodonetsk
  • More than 36,000 people with protection assistance and information, including how to obtain personal documents and how to register for social services

In neighbouring countries, we have been supporting refugees from Ukraine by providing:
  • More than 11,000 people in Poland and Moldova with emergency cash assistance payments, with hundreds of thousands more payments in the pipeline
  • More than 40,000 people with emergency relief items including blankets, hygiene kits, baby kits and sleeping mats
  • Safe spaces called “Blue Dots” where children, families and people with special needs can access mental health support, child-friendly play areas, breastfeeding areas, social services, legal information and more
  • Tens of thousands of people with legal assistance and information on social services through hotlines and in-person centres

None of this is possible without the generosity of supporters like you. Thank you for helping us reach those most in need—we continue to reach thousands more each day with your assistance.

Kind regards,
