City Council takes new moves to house more homeless people

Nottingham City Council is taking action to make more homes available to homeless people in the city, taking the total to 220 over the last two years.

The councils Executive Board has agreed a loan for Nottingham City Homes to buy 70 more properties with a view to turning them into temporary accommodation for homeless households.

The move aims to reduce the use of bed and breakfast (B&B) facilities as temporary accommodation, as its undesirable for families and costly for the council.

Reminder for voters on registration and postal vote deadlines

If youre not already registered to vote, you need to do so by midnight on Tuesday 26 November if you want to take part in the General Election on 12 December.

Anyone wishing to vote by post needs to make an application by 5pm on the same day 26 November.

Citys parks get behind National Tree Week and the Big Climate Fightback

Nottingham City Councils Public Realm team is getting behind an annual campaign to celebrate trees and the impact they have on the environment and on wellbeing.

From this weekend, The Tree Council is asking the public to get involved with National Tree Week a celebration to raise awareness and appreciation for trees, and to encourage planting. As part of National Tree Week, tree-related events including planting, walks, talks, wood fairs and tree dressing will be taking place all over the UK. The events coincide with the onset of the winter tree-planting season. The festival runs until 3 December.

Winter support and shelter in place again for the homeless in Nottingham

Nottinghams extra support measures for the homeless in cold weather have kicked this week, to provide enough shelter for anyone otherwise sleeping on the street as the temperatures drop.

Nottingham City Council and a range of partners provide a range of support all year round, which is stepped up between October and March with extra safeguards in place when temperatures fall below zero, such as opening rooms at the London Road fire station to provide temporary support and shelter to those who have rejected offers of help.

Open space requirements for new developments in Nottingham set for green light

Nottingham City Council took an important step towards increasing and improving the open spaces linked to new developments on Tuesday.

The citys Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for Open Space in New Residential and Commercial Developments went to the councils Executive Board for adoption.
