Are you ever going about your regular, daily life and suddenly you’re struck by a memory of something blatantly undemocratic Trump did while in office?

Well, this weekend I was psyching myself up to file my taxes and I couldn’t help remembering that Trump refused to release his tax returns to the American public. We never found out exactly how much of a crook he was. But from what we do know, he got away with paying basically nothing.

This tax season, educate your community about how to keep the next Trump, or Trump himself, from using and abusing the power of the oval office.

Click here to send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about the Protecting Our Democracy Act, which (among many other things) would force presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns:

It’s a no-brainer that presidents and presidential candidates should be required, by law, to release their tax returns. Every year, millions of Americans pay their fair share of taxes to fund social services, public education, and more. I just did it on Saturday!

We put enormous trust in our government and the presidency to use that money wisely, and to do what’s best for Americans, not their own financial interests. That trust is meaningless if we don’t know whether the commander in chief is also paying their fair share, or what their financial entanglements may be.

Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns is only one example of how he abused his public office. We need greater safeguards on the presidency or else future presidents could get away with similar abuses—or worse.

Submit your letter to the editor urging Congress to pass the Protecting Our Democracy Act, because no president should be above the law.
