Tomorrow, the House will officially hold a vote on my first original bill -- The Building Blocks of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Act. Here’s what it would do:

Invest in early childhood STEM education programs and opportunities

Develop ways to tear down obstacles that prevent and discourage young girls from pursuing a career in STEM

Expand opportunities for children to get interested and exposed to computer science (one of the fastest growing sectors of our economy)

As the Chairwoman of the Research & Technology Subcommittee, I wanted to hear from you personally: Do you believe we need to be investing more in STEM?

For me, this is personal.

Before I ran for office, I launched a STEM education program to help introduce hundreds of children and young minds to STEM and how they can pursue a career in digital manufacturing.

Last year, the Smithsonian Science Education Center estimated that there were 2,400,000 unfilled jobs in STEM in the United States.

Those are good-paying jobs with benefits waiting for young kids and future leaders to take. But we have to develop that talent -- And we have to remove the obstacles that stop little girls and children from disadvantaged backgrounds from pursuing those opportunities.

That’s what the Building Blocks of STEM Act aims to do. But I want to know where you stand on the issue: Do you believe it’s time we invested more in STEM education and programs for children?

Yes >>
No >>
Unsure >>

Thank you,

Haley
