Dear John,
Our national parks and monuments under attack! Trump’s Bureau of Land Management
just unveiled plans to let Big Polluters destroy lands near two of our most
special wild places.
The BLM plans to sell off portions of Bears Ears National Monument & Capitol
Reef National Park for fracking and drilling projects -- lands near the
ancestral homes of Indigenous peoples.
It’s not too late to stop Trump from destroying these iconic landscapes. With
your help, we can convince the BLM to protect them. But we must act fast!
Protect our public lands: Tell the BLM not to sell off parts of Bears Ears and
Capitol Reef for fracking projects!

The lands up for auction right now include important Indigenous sites such as
kivas, cliff dwellings, masonry structures, rock art, burial grounds and other
ancient sites. Fracking near these places could destroy them.
Moreover, the fracking technique used in these projects would be devasting to
local tribes’ ancestral homelands and the health of nearby communities.
Extracted fracking wastewater can be radioactive, and its disposal through
injection wells has been proven to increase earthquakes.
We can’t let the fossil fuel industry destroy the valuable artifacts of an
ancient culture just so it can increase its profits. It’s up to you and me,
John, to protect Utah’s sacred sites from Big Oil’s
drilling projects.
Sign the petition: Protect Bears Ears and Capitol Reef from drilling and
fracking!

The BLM’s proposed lease sales will have 3 unacceptable impacts.
First, they further target Indigenous communities' resources and ancestral
lands. Second, they pose a safety and health threat to the people who live on
the surrounding land. Third they would alter the quality and nature of these
iconic landscapes forever.
Together, engaged Friends of the Earth members like you have helped protect this
region for years. But there's still more to do. We can’t let the Trump
Administration scar our protected areas just for fossil fuel industry profits.
We must protect these places for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.
Without your help, the unique history of Bears Ears and Capitol Reef could
disappear forever.
Help send 35,000 comments to the BLM: Tell the agency to protect Bears Ears and
Capitol Reef!
