Renewed Calls for Oil Drilling Ban in The Bahamas

The Our Islands Our Future coalition — including Waterkeeper Alliance and Waterkeepers Bahamas — renewed calls for a permanent nationwide ban on oil drilling in The Bahamas following the release of the most recent United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.

Years ago, Severn Riverkeeper stopped decades of pollution from the Annapolis Mall that had been destroying Cabin Branch, a tributary of Saltworks Creek on the Severn River. Now, nine years later, otters are finding fish in that same creek.

Stormwater is one of the most significant threats to water quality across the globe.  Simply put, stormwater is just what it sounds like: running water from storms that collects "hitchhiking" contaminants before entering watersheds.
 

Who is Waterkeeper?

"If we are not really careful about how we use every drop of water, we are in danger... cultures and communities are not going to be able to survive." To say the Rio Grande is iconic is putting it mildly. Saying it’s in trouble would probably also be an understatement. Rio Grande Waterkeeper Jen Pelz — a seasoned attorney — is on the case, defending the ephemeral watershed from all manner of quality and quantity threats.
