Last year, I met with parents in my district to talk about the Child Tax Credit. These monthly payments assisted the families of sixty-one million children across the country, with low-income families spending nearly all of their payments on food, rent, utilities, clothing, and school supplies.
So many of the parents spoke to me, full of emotion, not about school supplies or new shoes they could buy, but about something much bigger — about the importance of having extra money available so they could start saving for their kids, about being able to look to the future.
But the Child Tax Credit ended in December, leaving America’s kids and families in desperate need of real support. Now, I’m working every day to reinstate these tax credits, for good this time — because it’s unacceptable to allow even a single kid to fall back into poverty.
I won’t lie: it’s an uphill battle. If Republicans take back control of the House in 2022, the Child Tax Credit and so many other programs that benefit American families will be on the chopping block. To keep Democrats in the House majority and keep me in Congress advocating for our nation’s children, please rush a contribution of $5 or whatever you can spare right away.
