My name is Gabby Giffords. I'm a former congresswoman and gun violence survivor, and today, I want to talk to you about my friend, Congressman Dwight Evans.

Like me, Dwight is committed to ending the gun violence epidemic in our country. He's determined to make Philadelphia a safer place for all, and he's been a champion of common sense gun safety laws in Congress.

I know Philadelphia is no stranger to gun violence. Many people know someone or have a loved one who has been taken by gun violence. But despite what some claim, this violence that is hurting our communities can be stopped, and Dwight is leading the charge.

He voted to pass the universal background checks bill. He sent an urgent message to President Joe Biden and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney about the gun violence epidemic plaguing Philadelphia. And he's introducing legislation along with Senator Bob Casey that will help victims of gun violence identify and access resources.

Yesterday, Dwight joined me as a co-chair of a Senate forum dedicated to addressing gun violence in Pennsylvania. Federal, state, and local leaders need to take this crisis seriously and start looking for solutions — and that's exactly what Dwight is doing as a leader.
