While Governor Kevin Stitt (a man) is obsessed with outlawing abortion in Oklahoma, Governor Gretchen Whitmer (a woman) has filed a lawsuit asking the Michigan Supreme Court to immediately protect abortion rights; working to defend against a trigger law that would criminalize abortion.

Why is it that restricting or even outlawing access to reproductive care seems to be at the top of the priority list for male legislators when there are actual urgent matters that need to be addressed? These abortion bans are dangerous and completely disregard the lived realities of women across the country. This is why we need equal representation in the rooms where decisions that affect women are being made.

There are female legislators across the country who are fighting tirelessly to resist these draconian bills – but there are simply not enough women in office to make a big enough difference. 20 states have still never elected a female governor, and only 3 state legislatures have achieved gender parity. That means 47 of the 50 state legislatures are majority MALE.

We need all the female legislators we can get. We are sick and tired of MALE LEGISLATORS sitting around making decisions that affect the lives of women – without any women present to weigh in.
