John,

At the end of this email, I’m going to ask you to make a donation to the NDRC. But first, let me explain why. (If you don’t have time to read the whole email but would like to support our work, you can give at this special link >>> [link removed] .)

To talk about where we are, we need to talk about where we’ve been. I joined the NDRC in 2017 because I believed in former Attorney General Eric Holder’s plan to stop Republicans from gerrymandering in 2021-22 the same way they did in 2011-12. It was the first time Democrats had put together a comprehensive national strategy to combat Republican map manipulation.

In the years since, A.G. Holder’s plan has been proven effective. Don’t just take it from me – take it from headlines like “The GOP’s gerrymandering scheme backfires” and “Democrats make surprising inroads in redistricting fight.” Slate explained how it worked: “Democrats had a plan, and built the infrastructure, to... litigate where Republicans overreached, pass ballot initiatives against gerrymandering, and raise more public awareness of redistricting before the cycle began.”

So where are we now? We’ve made a ton of progress, but we can’t stop fighting – because the GOP hasn’t stopped fighting for their manipulated maps . Their strategies include repeatedly gerrymandering despite court rulings against them, appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court using dangerous legal arguments, threatening to impeach judges who throw out their maps, and investing big money in electing judges who will rule their way.

That’s not to mention the states, like Florida, where they’re still trying to pass gerrymandered maps in the first place!

Responding to all these tactics and more requires us to be focused, organized, far-seeing, and to have resources in hand. And that’s why I’m asking you for a donation today, John.

The fact is, redistricting isn’t over, and it won’t be over for a while. It can be an exhausting battle – but all I have to do is look at everything we’ve achieved so far to know we’re on the right path.

That’s a testament to supporters like you. So if you’re able, will you rush a donation today to help us keep fighting for fair redistricting and fair elections?

In gratitude,
Kelly Burton
