John, have you heard about Title 42?
Title 42 is a Trump-era immigration policy that uses public health as a reason to take advantage of asylum seekers rights. The policy allows for quick expulsion of asylum seekers without providing them a proper hearing in front of a judge — effectively denying them due process.
John, while the Biden administration has begun working to remove Title 42 over time, there are still millions of displaced migrants who are being wrongfully affected by Title 42. We can not afford to waste time or see any delay in this process. That's why we're calling on President Biden to swiftly and wholly remove Title 42 in its entirety. If you stand with Jamaal and our mission to bring immigration justice to those who are in need, please add your name to support our petition to President Biden.
We not only have the capacity, but the moral obligation to welcome significantly more immigrants and refugees to our country, John. And we cannot continue to allow racist and unjust policies to uphold our broken and unequal system any longer.
What's more, Title 42 has been used to bar entry for Ukrainian asylum-seekers who are fleeing to the southern borders, in the midst of an unconscionable war. In short: Title 42 is a racist tool to prevent Black and brown migrants from entering the country and being provided asylum.
Let's be clear, this country will never be great until we have comprehensive immigration reform and a clear pathway to citizenship. We will never be a healthy, thriving democracy, until we accept our immigrant friends and family as full citizens of this country. And right now, at this moment, the Senate has an opportunity to get that done.
Everyone should have the right to seek residence and be protected no matter their race or ethnicity. That is why it's crucial that we continue to show up for Jamaal as he fights to address insidious policies like Title 42 to protect Black and brown migrants. Please add your name to our petition today to stand with Jamaal and our collective fight for true immigration justice.
In solidarity,
Bowman for Congress
