Our team and a few board members were fortunate to be amongst dozens of survivors, activists, and leaders to witness this historic moment. I was able to connect with leading Members of Congress fighting to end gun violence and our Executive Director, Greg Jackson, met with the President in the oval office after the event.
Less than twenty-four hours later, a tragic shooting in Brooklyn occurred, injuring multiple people. As a New Yorker, I started my day with images of my community suffering from another devastating act of senseless gun violence. |
President Biden's bold action to address illegal guns in our country is a major step towards breaking the cycle of gun violence, but we know there's so much more to accomplish and we need Congress to pass bold, living saving legislation.
We applaud the President's action and are sending our prayers out to my neighbors in New York today. Congress must take action to keep communities safe and prevent egregious incidents like the one in Brooklyn from happening again.
Today, I urge you to take action by calling your Congressional representative and asking them to support $750 million for a CVI initiative in FY23. This funding would save countless lives and improve communities all around the country. |
