John – Today is Thank Election Heroes Day! American election workers have had a rough year, so this day is extra important. Let me explain:

• Since the January 6th insurrection, anti-democratic extremists have been viciously harassing honest election workers.¹
• In fact, today, 1 in 4 election workers report they may leave their job before the 2024 elections to avoid further smears and threats. ²
• This is a crisis for American democracy. Election workers are central to free and fair elections. Without nonpartisan election workers, extremists can bully their way into power and manipulate elections.

Election workers are getting real, violent threats from extremists who want them to quit. Today we have to make sure they hear from the rest of us – the vast majority of Americans who appreciate election workers for keeping our democracy running.

Will you join voters across the country in tweeting a message with the #ThankElectionHeroes hashtag right now? When we get this trending, election workers everywhere will see we appreciate their work!

Election workers of all political stripes are being dogged and harassed by anonymous trolls for just doing their job. The Department of Justice even launched a special task force to investigate the spike in threatening voicemails and emails nationwide. ³

This should upset all of us. To save American democracy, we must build a culture where election workers feel supported and motivated.
