John,
This morning, I turned on my computer and immediately saw this headline. A shooting in Brooklyn, NY, in a subway station, on a normal, busy commute day. The shooter is still at large.
I saw a city I not only recognized, but one that I visit regularly. Where my best friend and so many other people that I love live. I sent the text – ”Craig, are you okay? There was a shooting.” Luckily, he responded, safe.
Not everyone is so lucky. 13 people are injured, traumatized, changed after this attack. These headlines aren’t new, the shootings aren’t new. I see headlines every day and, having worked in gun violence prevention for five years, I see so many more gun deaths that don’t make the news cycle and leave a bloody trail of tragedy.
If we don’t finally take action against heinous gun violence, we’ll reach a point where we’ll have all sent the text. We’ll all know the feeling as your heartbeat quickens and your fingers move like lightning across your keyboard. One thing I can’t know is who will respond.
That’s why I’m coming to you right now, {FirstName or 'friend'}}. I want to stop another deadly year of gun violence in its tracks, stop a future full of tragedy – but I can’t do it alone. I know that we, Brady, have asked for your support before, but it truly makes a difference in our fight to end this epidemic. So please, will you donate right now and fund this fight for our future?

Thank you, John.
