Dear Friend,
This month I’m reflecting on our name. Ten years ago, two separate
Jewish organizations became one and took a new name: Bend the Arc.
Bend the Arc is a call to action. Most famously
said by Dr. Martin Luther King, these words were inspired by Theodore
Parker, an abolitionist minister who spoke out against slavery in
1853:
“I
do not pretend to understand the moral universe, the arc is a long
one…I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the
experience of sight…[But] I am sure it bends towards
justice.”
Even when winning feels hard to envision, Parker tells us
it’s our conviction that makes a just future
possible.
Ten years ago, Bend the Arc was founded as an act of hope
and commitment to build an America we’ve yet to see. Now, we get to
celebrate what we’ve achieved together and look once more beyond the
horizon.
Donate
$18 today to celebrate 10 years and hundreds of thousands of Jews and
allies working together to bend the arc towards justice and
liberation.
We are grateful to everyone whose shoulders we stand on: so many
staff, volunteer leaders, donors, program alumni, movement partners,
and ancestors who came before us, and who labored to create this
beautiful, ambitious, visionary movement.
Because of supporters like you, we’re rising up as a powerful
movement of Jews and allies to elect leaders who
share our values; mobilize communities around the
country to dismantle white supremacy, antisemitism, and anti-Black
racism; and win policies that invest in the
well-being of all people in this country at the federal, state, and
local level.
In the last month alone, we’ve championed the
nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court,
pressured President Biden to stop funding cruel
immigration policies, published a moving resource for
Passover, and endorsed the next generation of
progressive champions through our PAC.
The future we are working for — one with freedom, safety, and
liberation for all of us — isn’t just an abstract goal; it’s a
huge, transformational, and winnable reality. It will take
work and it will take power. But we have to believe it’s possible,
even if we can’t yet see the end of the arc.
Donate
$18 today to celebrate our movement’s shared work and ensure that Bend
the Arc can continue to fight for justice and liberation for years to
come.
Towards liberation,
Jamie Beran, Interim CEO Bend the Arc
