John,
Access to quality healthcare has affected me from day one - literally.
When my mom was pregnant with me, she lived in a rural county with a hospital that didn’t have a maternity ward. She had to drive 20 miles to the county next door to give birth.
Now, that same county doesn’t have a hospital at all.
When my grandfather got sick, he lived in that same rural county. He had to travel in the back of an ambulance to the county next door, when every minute counted.
This is far too common throughout our state - particularly in our rural areas.
Yesterday, we marked National Rural Health Day. As your next Lieutenant Governor, I will work with Governor Cooper to support our rural hospitals and do everything I can to keep them from closing.
I’m a strong supporter and a cosponsor of Medicaid expansion - not just because it will provide better healthcare access to half a million North Carolinians, and not just because we’ve already paid for it with our federal tax dollars. I support Medicaid expansion because I’ve experienced firsthand what happens when everyday people lack access to nearby emergency care.
We need your help in this fight. Can you chip in $5 or more to our campaign now, so we can spread our message on healthcare access to every corner of our state?
Access to healthcare is a life or death issue - we must do all we can to ensure our people remain healthy and safe.
Yours,
Chaz
