CREW’s investigation into President Trump’s disastrous effort to host the G-7 summit at his own resort turned up clear evidence that Trump was lying all along.
When Trump announced that Doral was being considered as the location for the G-7 back in August, he claimed that the Secret Service preferred his resort above all other options. In order to discredit the idea that he was just trying to help out his struggling property, he said “When my people came back…They went to places all over the country. And they came back and they said, ‘This [Doral] is where we would like to be.’ Now we had military people doing it. We had Secret Service people doing it.”
Late last week, we got an email from the Secret Service, in response to our records request, that proves he was making it all up. Read all about it, and see the record for yourself on the CREW website.
The email shows that not only did someone add Trump’s resort to the list for consideration at the last minute, but also that the Secret Service actually had concerns about Doral, saying that it “presents some challenges.” A section of the email was also redacted for a reason that implies there may have been security concerns.
While it may not be surprising to learn that Trump fabricated a reason to funnel money to his struggling property, it’s still not every day that we see such concrete evidence catching him in a blatant lie.
This is why CREW’s work is such a crucial check on Trump’s corruption—we get victories like this one. If you’re able, help us expose Trump’s daily lies and profiteering by making a contribution to our legal and investigative work today.
