Hello,

This week's edition will discuss self-development, a conversation with Quillette's Founding Editor On Starting The Most Controversial Magazine In The World, and discovering the kind of job that suits you.

** Strive Towards What's Better.
------------------------------------------------------------

The modern idea is you’re supposed to accept yourself. I think that’s an insane idea - really. I can’t think of a more nihilistic idea than that.

“You’re already okay”.

It’s like, “no, you’re not!” And the reason you’re not is that you could be way more than you are. What do you want to be: do you want to be okay as you are, or do you want to strive towards what’s better?

** Monday Reflections
------------------------------------------------------------

“You are, on the one hand, the most complex thing in the entire universe, and on the other, someone who can’t even set the clock on your microwave. Don’t overestimate your self-knowledge.” (Share this on Twitter ([link removed]) )

“It is not virtuous to be victimized by a bully, even if that bully is oneself.
”(Share this on Twitter ([link removed]) )

“Order is not enough. You can’t just be stable, and secure, and unchanging, because there are still vital and important new things to be learned.”

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson:

“To balance being a mom, you did something easy, like starting the most controversial new magazine in the English-speaking world."

Claire Lehman:

“I was fascinated by this idea that politics could corrupt a whole area of science, and I wanted to write an article on it, and I thought, there is no publication that will have me."

What Kind of Job Fits You? | Jordan B. Peterson

Dr. Peterson:

"You ought to know that there are differences in intelligence. For example, if you go into a job and you're not smart enough for that job, you're going to have one bloody miserable time, and you're going to make life wretched for the people around you because you won't be able to handle the position. And as you climb hierarchies of competence, the demand on fluid intelligence increases and so unless you want to fail, you don't put yourself in over your head."
