Friend,

On April 25 AU’s Legal Director Richard Katskee will argue before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of the school district in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. This case is about a coach who violated the religious freedom of students by pressuring them to join his public prayers at the 50-yard line at public high school football games. We’re defending the school district, which did the right thing to protect its students when it stopped the coach from leading students in public prayer.

We want our members and supporters to be among the first to hear from us about the arguments. So we’re inviting you to a special virtual briefing on Tuesday, April 26.

Our discussion, led by AU Vice President of Strategic Communications Andrew Seidel, will feature analysis from one of the members of our legal team representing the district. AU’s Madison Legal Fellow Gabi Hybel will explain what each side argued in the case and the questions asked by the Justices. Andrew and I will also offer our perspective. You’ll get a unique behind-the-scenes account of all the work that’s gone into one of AU’s most crucial cases.

While the road to victory at the Supreme Court may be steep, the facts of this case are on our side, as are decades of legal precedent and a coalition of religious and nonreligious Americans alike who believe in the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious freedom for all. On April 25, we’ll make our best case to the Supreme Court and tell you all about it the next day.

Please sign up here to join us on Tuesday, April 26, at 7:30 pm ET / 4:30 pm PT.
