We know the status quo protects itself...
We know that with every revolution, there is a counterrevolution. When I got the call that I was invited to the Philadelphia Democratic Committee endorsement meeting, I knew I was being called in to witness my opponent's endorsement.
So I went. I wanted to show the Philly Dems that I'm not going to shy away from showing up for difficult conversations or unwelcoming rooms.
I wanted to show voters the sort of representative I will be in Congress—relentless and courageous in the pursuit of justice for working people.
I wanted to talk about what protecting the status quo neglects and ignores—the suffering and struggle everyday people are facing trying to survive in the world we live in today.
And I wanted the chair of the Philadelphia Democratic Party, who has run the Philly Dems since 1986, that change is coming whether they endorse me or not.
