For over a century, women have been fighting hard to amend the U.S. Constitution to include banning discrimination on the basis of sex. The Equal Rights Amendment is a historic push for equality and its success could all come down to what happens in the Virginia General Assembly next year.

Three-fourths of the states need to ratify a constitutional amendment for it to pass. Right now, 37 states have signed on, which means we need just one more state to ratify it. Virginia could be that state. Last year, ERA ratification failed in the General Assembly by just one vote, but thanks to our victories in November, passing the ERA has never looked more likely.

We need to seize this opportunity and finally ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Can we count on you to sign our petition to tell Democrats in the House of Delegates and Senate to hold a vote to ratify the ERA?

Congress has already passed a resolution clearing the way for Virginia to ratify the amendment and Democratic delegates and senators in Virginia have already introduced bills for ratification in the General Assembly. All we need now is a vote.

That’s where you come in. We need to show Democrats in the General Assembly that Virginians overwhelmingly want the ERA to pass. The more signatures we get on our petition, the bigger the message we can send to the General Assembly.
