Now that the Washington State Legislature has adjourned sine die and this legislative session has officially come to a close, we wanted to reach out with some exciting updates on the progress our members made.

This session, our Senate Democrats put the pedal to the metal and made historic progress for our communities. In just sixty days, our State Legislature passed hundreds – yes, hundreds – of bills to support Washington families.

Here are a few highlights from this session:

Investing in Transportation: Governor Inslee signed our “Move Ahead Washington” transportation package into law! This package will preserve and maintain our highway systems, invest in high speed rail, expand public transportation, reduce carbon emissions, AND create good-paying jobs.

Education & Opportunity for All: Senate Democrats passed legislation to increase funding for more school counselors and nurses, help our schools recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, and expand access to higher education.

Safe Communities: Our members delivered for our communities by restricting high-capacity magazines and “ghost guns,” passed police reform to combat excessive use of force, and addressed the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people.

An Economy That Works for Everyone: Senate Democrats stood up for all of us by strengthening paid family and medical leave, providing tax relief to small businesses, investing in bold poverty reduction proposals, expanding access to affordable housing, and taking action to reduce homelessness.

Tackling the Climate Crisis: The Legislature passed bills to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, invest in renewable energy and electric vehicles, promote salmon recovery efforts, and protect public lands.
