WHERE TO BEGIN? This month has been a whirlwind of prochoice progress! We'll try to summarise it all!

1. Parliament votes to decriminalise abortion in Northern Ireland (yes, you read that right!)

1. Parliament votes to decriminalise abortion in Northern Ireland

This week, Parliament voted to decriminalise abortion in Northern Ireland if no Assembly is formed by October 21st.

This is the result of YOUR hard work! Thank you to everyone who has marched, donated, tweeted, written to their MP and who has said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

What does this mean? If no Assembly is formed by October 21st, Westminster will repeal section 58 and 59 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 in Northern Ireland. This will mean that abortion will be decriminalised, and there will be no more prosecutions for abortion in Northern Ireland. The government will put in place a human rights compliant regulatory framework for abortion in Northern Ireland by 31st March 2020. This is HUGE progress!
2. Comedy fundraiser update
On July 5th, we hosted a comedy fundraiser with the incredible TIFFANY STEVENSON! We raised over £8,000 for Alliance for Choice ([link removed]) & Abortion Support Network ([link removed]) . If you missed it, or if you'd like MORE comedy, we have good news - Tiffany Stevenson will be at the Edinburgh Fringe! Please support this prochoice hero and tell all your friends!

3. SEE YOU IN COURT
On July 5th, at STAND UP FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS, we announced that we had decided to take the UK Government to court to challenge its inaction on abortion rights in Northern Ireland.

Our crowdfund hit our target of £15,000 in 48 hours thanks to everyone who donated!

We have started the process of judicial proceedings and we are talking to our legal team about the way forward. Parliament wants the government to act – we want to keep the pressure up to make sure that happens. The ultimate aim is access to abortion for women across Northern Ireland, and until that is actually happening we won't be giving up. Follow our crowdfunding page for updates here ([link removed]) .
London-Irish Abortion Rights Campaign brings people in London together to campaign for access to free, safe, legal abortion across the island of Ireland. Alliance for Choice campaigns for abortion rights in Northern Ireland. Abortion Support Network supports people who need to travel from Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Malta and Gibraltar to have a safe, legal abortion.
