John —
This week in Washington, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court was confirmed.
After 230 years without a single Black woman on the bench, the U.S. Senate made history by voting to confirm Justice Jackson by a vote of 53-47. In addition to being the first Black woman, Jackson will also be the first public defender to ever sit on the Supreme Court. This is truly a cause for celebration!
So, on Friday, I gathered with my fellow Democrats on the White House Lawn to celebrate Justice Jackson and the history-making confirmation vote.
As attendees, we all enjoyed the speeches from Vice President Harris, President Biden, and Justice Jackson – I hope y'all at home enjoyed them as well if you had a chance to tune in live or catch the highlights.
For me, watching Vice President Harris kick off the ceremony and introduce Judge Jackson was a huge dose of "black girl magic," and I felt a great sense of pride and excitement in what this moment meant for every single Black woman in our country.
So, congratulations to you, Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson!
With love,
-- Lucy
