While the warning for immediate and transformational action remains clear, the IPCC provides a glimmer of hope that we can avoid the worst effects of climate change.
John —The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has released the final installment of its latest analysis of where our world is in tackling climate change. Its findings can be quickly summed up as “it’s now or never.”
While the warning for immediate and transformational action remains clear, the IPCC provides a glimmer of hope that we can avoid the worst effects of climate change.
The report finds that there is still a path forward to limiting global warming to 1.5 or 2 degrees Celsius. If global greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by 43% by 2030, we can stay within the warming parameters laid out in the Paris Climate Agreement.
Make no mistake, we are still “on a fast track to climate disaster,” as UN Secretary General António Guterres warns.
But this latest IPCC report states that if governments, businesses, and individuals follow the advice laid out by scientists, we can avert disaster and improve living standards around the world. And the solutions to halve emissions across all sectors by 2030 are out there.
That’s where SEEC members come in. As the most powerful voice on climate action in Congress, they are focused on combating climate change and following the science to create a sustainable future.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
