Friend,
Recently Congress held our first hearing on Medicare for All legislation since the pandemic began.
This pandemic exposed just how broken the healthcare system is in our country, and how urgently we need Medicare for All.
We’ve seen huge racial disparities in COVID impacts as well as across our healthcare system. For example, Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die during childbirth than white women, and Black Americans are twice as likely as white people to die of diabetes. This is unconscionable.
Our current system also prioritizes profits over people, which is why nearly half of all our country’s residents are struggling to pay for healthcare, and 90% of bankruptcies are due to extreme medical debt.
During the hearing, which was coordinated by the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), a community leader in my district testified about his experiences with being uninsured and the need for affordable healthcare for everyone.
My colleagues in the CPC and I know that healthcare is a human right, not a privilege.
But we’re up against health insurance and Big Pharma CEOs, who have political clout and want to keep profiting off our pain, our illnesses, and our deaths. In 2020, more than two-thirds of Congress cashed a pharma campaign check.
That’s why we have to elect more progressives to Congress in this year’s midterm elections, so we can make the sweeping changes we need.
Please chip in now to the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC to elect strong progressive candidates across the country so we can achieve our goals like Medicare for All.
In the richest country in the world, no one should have to face financial ruin, continue to be sick, or even die because they lack adequate coverage and care.
For example, one in four people who rely on insulin have had to make the life-threatening choice to ration or skip doses due to the cost. People here pay more than 10 times the cost of insulin than in other similar countries, because the U.S. allows and encourages price gouging, corporate greed, and a Big Pharma monopoly.
But we know how to provide the higher quality and more affordable medicine and care that everyone needs to thrive. We would save billions on Medicare for All—$200 billion on lower administrative costs alone.
This past week, President Biden signed an executive order to expand access to the Affordable Care Act, which is a great step to bring us closer to universal healthcare. And we’ve got to keep going.
For everyone to have the care they need to survive and thrive, we need to elect more progressive Democrats to Congress who will fight for our priorities like Medicare for All.
The CPC PAC is grassroots-funded and the more we can raise, the more CPC PAC can invest in critical races across the country.
Donate now to the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC to elect strong progressives to Congress who’ll fight for equity and justice by my side.
