John,
In March, governments at the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA5) officially adopted a mandate to open negotiations for a binding global plastics treaty that will address the lifecycle of plastics.
That’s right. For the first time EVER, we have a mandate to start negotiating a legally binding global plastics treaty that incorporates ALL STAGES of the lifecycle of plastic pollution – from fossil fuel extraction to disposal.
Take action now to demand the Biden Administration stand strong in negotiations later this year.
This milestone is just the first step towards the adoption of a strong Global Plastics Treaty, but it's a momentous one! Countries will start to negotiate the terms of the treaty later this year, and we must continue to amp up the pressure on the Biden Administration. We will push for strong binding commitments, reuse over false solutions, and center justice for frontline communities and workers. We must ensure governments across the world continue to feel the pressure to negotiate a strong plastics treaty.
Let’s get louder until a binding global treaty that addresses the lifecycle of plastics is signed, sealed, and delivered! Take action now and keep your eye out for next steps on the campaign!
