John,
Five months ago today, I announced our campaign for Congress in Upstate New York.
A lot has changed since we first started this journey together (including the district lines!)—but one thing has not changed: we are committed to running a positive campaign that offers an optimistic and bold vision for the future.
I’m so hopeful for what Upstate New York can accomplish in the future because of all we’ve done in the past. Whenever the world has faced big challenges, Upstate New Yorkers have risen to meet them–and I know we can do it again. We made the equipment our troops used to defeat fascism in the World Wars, the machines America needed to usher in the New Deal, and the computers that brought the world a technology revolution.
I know that we can do it again. We’ll create the jobs of the future that address the world’s biggest challenges–and we’re going to do it right here in Upstate New York.
John, our campaign is building momentum. Here’s how I know:
1. Grassroots Fundraising. Thanks to grassroots supporters like you, our campaign raised over $360,000 in the first three months of 2022, which is over $100,000 more than our next closest competitor. And I’m especially proud that two-thirds of our contributions in the first quarter were $50 or less. The grassroots energy is only growing, with over half of all our campaign’s contributions coming in the two months since the New York State Legislature approved the new district lines.
2. Ballot Access. Candidates are required to submit 1,250 signatures to the Board of Elections to get on the ballot for the Democratic Primary. Our campaign submitted over 3x that amount! And we did it with a volunteer-driven effort, with petitions carried in all eight counties across New York’s 22nd Congressional District.
3. Endorsements. March was a great month for our campaign, gaining five endorsements I’m proud to have. The New York Working Families Party, former two-time Democratic nominee Dana Balter, the Cortland County Democratic Committee, Defend the Vote, and the local Tompkins County chapter of the New York Progressive Action Network ALL endorsed our campaign!
As you can see, momentum is building behind our hopeful vision for Upstate New York’s future.
And John, none of it would be possible without your support. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
We’re going to win this race and deliver a people-first agenda for Upstate New York’s working families, and we’re going to do it together.
With gratitude & high hopes,
Josh Riley
