This follows the savage playbook of Starbucks union-busting tactics seen in Memphis when they fired the entire organizing committee - 7 baristas at one store! They’ll stop at nothing to maximize their profits at the expense of their workers. What lurks beneath the mask of progressivism is the brutal, grim visage of profit at all cost.
Starbucks workers themselves are meeting this savagery with boldness and determination. They have gone on strike in Buffalo, against unsafe COVID working conditions, winning paid sick leave company wide. They’ve also gone on strike in Denver, Olympia WA, and staged rallies and protests outside of stores in Phoenix and Memphis to demand the rehiring of workers fired for supporting unionization.
Starbucks workers at 200 Starbucks stores, in 30 states, have filed to unionize with @SBWorkersUnited!
Momentum is building. 16 stores have successfully unionized so far nationwide.
The cream on the top last week was the historic victory by Staten Island Amazon warehouse workers, becoming the first Amazon warehouse in the US to unionize!
The Starbucks Workers Solidarity campaign is a Starbucks worker-led community solidarity campaign made up of individuals, socialists, community groups and unions. We’ve been tabling outside Starbucks stores, postering around the city, and raising money for the PNW Starbucks Workers Relief Fund.
So far, over 2000 people have signed the Starbucks Workers solidarity pledge (please sign here) and we’ve put up 1500 solidarity posters around town! The Starbucks workers relief fund has also raised over $10,000 in donations - but more is needed to take on a corporate behemoth like Starbucks! Please donate $5, $27 or $50 today!
