As you know, voting rights are under siege in Georgia — and across the nation. The only surefire way to stop Republicans from rigging our elections is to pass federal voting rights legislation. We must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

Here’s the problem: Republicans are using every trick in the book, including the filibuster in the Senate, to stymie our efforts. They’re hoping that if they can hold out long enough, they can stop it from passing before 2022, win back House and Senate majorities, and kill the bill forever.

And here’s the scary thing: their plan might work.

If we lose the House majority this year, the bills are dead. Additionally, Republicans will immediately try to undo all the progress we’ve made since the last election. That’s why they’re targeting Sanford Bishop’s race.

FiveThirtyEight has named this House seat the most competitive in Georgia. The DCCC has put the Congressman on their Frontline list. The New York Times just published an article about how concerned national Democrats are about keeping the seat and the House majority as a whole.

We have to stop treating this race like it’s a safe seat. Congressman Bishop must win re-election this year. If we lose this seat, we lose the House, and federal voting rights legislation is dead.

So please, can you chip in $25 to our Voting Rights Fund to ensure we have the resources needed to re-elect Congressman Bishop?
