We are excited to invite you to pilot a portion of ADL’s new civics education program. While ADL has been a leader in anti-bias education for more than four decades, civics education is a new initiative for us. ADL believes that enabling students to explore their civic engagement and identities through an anti-bias and social justice lens is essential for creating more inclusive and equitable schools, communities and society.
When will the pilot take place?

The pilot will take place during fall 2019. You will be asked to teach and provide feedback on six lessons that address the core civics themes of Structures of Democracy, Civic Participation, Social Justice and Civil Rights, Power and Privilege, Identity and Membership, and Media and News Literacy.
What will I receive for participating?

Participating teachers will receive a $200 honorarium upon completion of the feedback process.
What support will I receive?

To support your work with this new curriculum we will be conducting professional development sessions in Chicago on Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13, 2019. The focus will be on writing in the Civics classroom, how to facilitate productive discussion of controversial or difficult topics, and teaching Civics with ADL’s anti-bias framework. The costs of travel, hotel and meals will be reimbursed upon completion of the professional development and submission of receipts. When selecting pilot participants, preference will be given to those who participate in the professional development.
