Independent Women’s Forum is delighted to introduce Maud Maron, a mother who has been politicized by her experiences in New York’s public school system and is taking on longtime incumbent Rep. Carolyn Maloney, as the latest entry into our popular series of Champion Women profiles. ([link removed])
Maron is running as a Democrat in a crowded field to replace Maloney in New York’s 12th district. Maron is getting a lot of attention and, as a result of redistricting, has a shot at pulling an AOC-style upset and potentially replacing a woman who was first elected to Congress in 1993.
Maron is a former Legal Aid Society public defender who ran into trouble at work when she publicly criticized Critical Race Theory and stood up for rigorous academics.
Maron was one of the mothers Suzy Weiss profiled in a much-discussed article headlined “Revenge of the Covid Moms,” also on Bari Weiss’s Substack space. “I won’t be chased out of my kid’s school board, or a meeting where I’m called a Karen because I say ‘Hey, maybe we should keep the honors math program,'” Maron told Suzy Weiss.
“Covid Moms” is Suzy Weiss’ term for mothers across the country who, having been politicized by the failures of the public schools during Covid, are running for office. Maron, she wrote, is the “elder statement” of the group.
The primary is June 28. This may well prove the year of the newly-politicized, pro-academic standards mother.
