Dear John,
When it comes to tackling and preparing for the climate crisis, Maine has a large roadblock: Workforce shortages .
Maine needs more trained, skilled workers to:
*
Weatherize
homes
and
make
them
more
energy
efficient;
*
Install
and
maintain
heat
pumps,
EV
charging
stations,
and
solar
panels;
*
Farm
and
increase
Maine’s
food
security;
*
Sustain
Maine’s
forest
products
industry,
and
much
more.
And, we need more affordable housing to retain the young Mainers interested in entering these fields and to attract qualified workers from elsewhere.
Representative Ryan Fecteau, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, is tackling this issue with LD 2003 — legislation that would increase affordable housing in Maine. The Maine Legislature will vote on this bill soon and it needs your support to move forward .

LD 2003 also encourages more compact, mixed-use development which will:
*
Enable
people
to
get
where
they
need
to
go
on
foot,
bike,
or
bus
and
help
slash
Maine’s
emissions;
*
Conserve
the
farms,
forests,
and
other
natural
lands
we
require
to
help
meet
our
needs
more
sustainably
today
and
resiliently
in
the
future;
*
Free
up
space
for
green
infrastructure
that
will
make
our
communities
more
resilient
to
the
impacts
of
climate
change
from
flooding
to
high-heat
days;
and
*
Help
Mainers
be
more
active
and
connected
to
their
communities.
