No matter who you are, when you’re presented with an organizing
opportunity, you have to take it.

…and that’s just what Alexandria did Wednesday at the White House.

After a bill signing ceremony for a bill Alexandria co-sponsored to
strengthen the postal service, she used her time with President Biden to
discuss student loan debt cancellation:

It’s because of our pressure from inside and outside Congress that this
week, President Biden extended the emergency pause on federal student loan
payments through August.

It’s something, but it’s not enough. These pauses only extend the panic
and disorder folks feel every time we near a deadline. Alexandria and our
movement cannot understate the economic danger and risk for our country if
President Biden does not make the emergency pause on federal student loan
payments permanent.

Alexandria has been outspoken that the $1.75 trillion dollar student loan
debt emergency is “a moral hazard.” Forgiveness is the right thing to do.

President Biden made student loan forgiveness a major talking point while
campaigning for president in 2020. We cannot let up the pressure until
President Biden keeps his campaign promise and permanently forgives
federal student loan debt for the millions of Americans crushed under this
economic burden.
