Hi John, Yesterday, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson made history when she became our nation's first Black woman to be confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States. The Senate voted to confirm Judge Jackson in a bipartisan manner, with the chamber erupting in applause upon the final reading. Judge Jackson is an exceptionally qualified jurist who I am confident will continue to fight for equal justice and uphold the rule of law, as she has throughout her legal career.
In addition to being the first Black woman to be confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the third woman of color and only sixth woman in history to serve on our nation's highest court. And when Judge Jackson is sworn in later this summer upon Justice Breyer's retirement – also for the first time in history – white men will no longer hold the majority on the Supreme Court.
Today, we are one step closer to having a Supreme Court that represents the diverse fabric of our nation. Congratulations on your historic accomplishment, Judge! |
