Hi there,
We wanted to make sure you saw the news: Parking reform is back on the agenda in Sacramento!
California YIMBY is proud to sponsor AB 2097, this year’s successor to AB 1401, which came close to passing last year.
If passed, this bill will reduce housing costs and slash climate and air pollution by eliminating expensive parking mandates on new homes built near high-quality transit.
Will you add your name and endorse AB 2097 as a community co-sponsor?

Many cities in California mandate the inclusion of parking in all new residential developments, driving up rents and causing a disparate impact on lower-income and minority residents who don’t drive, or can’t afford a car.
This bill ends these costly minimum parking mandates, which can add $40,000 or more, per parking spot, to the cost of new housing – while also encouraging car use that increases toxic air and climate pollution.
Put simply, AB 2097 will reduce housing costs near transit, or in areas with low existing rates of car usage, by removing parking mandates in those areas.
Earlier this week, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released their latest report on the growing risks of climate catastrophe.
Their findings were conclusive, and very specific: The fight against climate change requires transforming our cities to make them more affordable and transit-friendly.
To put a finer point on it, we need to start passing more laws like AB 2097.
AB 2097 is heading into its first committee hearing later this month, and we want to demonstrate this bill’s wide appeal throughout California.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we’re going to build a more sustainable, walkable, and habitable future for everyone.
Gratefully,
Louis
