Americans across the country are suffering from the skyrocketing cost of gasoline, while the cost of oil is down from its peak, some of the nation's largest oil companies are reporting record-high profits. We need change, and we need it now.

That's why this past week, Diana as chair of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, brought together six executives from the country's biggest oil companies to discuss the crisis and figure out solutions that will work for the American people.

Despite hours of deliberation, not one of these oil executives was willing to commit to taking responsibility and bringing down the cost of gas.

Diana knows that we can't sit back and allow a system that forces American taxpayers to pay oil companies out of both pockets — first at the pump and then again through tax breaks — to continue in its current form.

For the sake of our economy and our people, it's time for Congress to act and break our national addiction to oil. Sustainable energy will allow us to move towards a cleaner and more affordable future where the average American won't have to worry about being price gouged at the pump.
