** ELPC a Leader in Iowa Campaign to Clean Up MidAmerican Energy
------------------------------------------------------------
MidAmerican Energy runs one of the nation’s largest coal fleets and is the single largest carbon polluter in Iowa. ELPC teamed up with the Iowa Environmental Council, Sierra Club, Clean Energy Districts of Iowa, and Iowa Interfaith Power & Light to call on MidAmerican to shut down its coal plants by 2030 ([link removed]) .
Recent analysis shows that MidAmerican could save Iowans nearly $1.2 billion over 20 years by retiring all of its coal plants and replacing their production with reliable renewable resources. Not to mention the billions saved in health, crop, and climate impact costs. MidAmerican advertises a 100% renewable energy vision, it is time they live up to that promise for the long-term health of the state.

** A Return to Stronger Fuel Economy Standards ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
We are glad to see the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) resetting more stringent Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for model years 2024-26 cars and light trucks. This is one more step in undoing the Trump administration’s damage to the program. But, we are disappointed that NHTSA did not finalize the strictest option it proposed. Fuel efficiency standards (along with EPA’s greenhouse gas tailpipe standards) are critical for reducing the transportation pollution driving the climate crisis and helping consumers save money at the pump.

** Lake Erie Negotiated Settlement ‘Back on Track’ ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Back in September, ELPC and Lucas County, Ohio came to a tentative agreement with the Federal Government to help alleviate the toxic algae blooms that have been plaguing Lake Erie for years, but the process stalled before finalizing. Now, things are moving again, and Ohio EPA will be required to establish a total maximum daily load program to reduce the pollution that feeds algae growth.
