John,
Did you know that *zero* Black women are serving in the Senate right now?
Oakland’s own, Vice President Kamala Harris, was the last to serve — but two incredible women are running to change that.
Cheri Beasley was the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court — the first Black woman to ever serve in that post — and now she’s running in a wide-open race in North Carolina to replace a retiring Republican senator.
The GOP candidates in the race are lining up to win over the MAGA base, and Cheri gives Democrats the best shot to flip this seat blue.
That’s not all — my very own colleague, Val Demings, is running to flip Florida’s Senate seat from red to blue in November.
It’ll be no easy task. She’s up against Senator Marco Rubio, a seasoned GOP leader with a national profile and a massive campaign war chest to back it up. Florida hasn’t gone Democrats’ way in recent history, but Val is the candidate to buck the trend.
The truth is, Republicans only won the last Senate election in Florida by fewer than 11,000 votes and no one in this race is more qualified than Val is to take on Marco Rubio, flip this seat blue, and start delivering for Floridians.
It’s time the United States Senate looks a little more like our country. Will you help me support Cheri Beasley’s and Val Demings’ historic candidacies for Senate by splitting a contribution between our campaigns?
