John,
Our struggles are many. But together, my friend, I know we can win. On January 1, Illinois residents join the residents of 26 other states where cannabis is legal or decriminalized.
Even if legalized the Chicago Housing Authority is refusing to accept it. That’s right. The CHA has said it will terminate public aid for anyone using marijuana--even for medical purposes.
This is our struggle. I have been very open that cannabis has saved my life. When I returned from active duty with PTSD, I turned to cannabis and not opioids and it has made every single day better.
But our government is acting against the legal rights of its citizens. We must take steps to decriminalize cannabis on the federal level to protect our rights. Chip in $5, $15, $25 or any amount to say you are with me in the fight for equal rights for ALL people.
We have to end the War on Drugs that marginalizes black and brown communities for profit. Racial and social injustice must not be tolerated. Until we get new voices in Congress, our struggles will continue.
Today, I ask you to dare to struggle, to support a grassroots candidacy of a native son of Chicago, and a voice for those who are unjustly having their rights taken away.
Join me, and dare to win.
In solidarity,
--Anthony
