Last night’s debate proved yet again that we have the opportunity to do far more than defeat Donald Trump — as critically important as that is.

We have the opportunity to ensure health care is accessible to every American — leaving no one behind. We have the opportunity to ensure no student is unable to attend college due to cost. We have the opportunity to invest in good-paying jobs that will transition our country to a renewable energy economy.

But the fights for these progressive changes don’t begin on January 20, 2020. They’re already well underway.

This primary season itself is a testament to how far the fight has come in a short period of time. The idea of not one but multiple serious candidates for president supporting Medicare for All seemed unthinkable just a few years ago.

Our progressive values are winning. But these battles require a sustained effort, especially in the face of a lawless president who will do anything — legal or otherwise — to hold on to power.
