Democrat,
Yesterday was a momentous day for our country. In a bipartisan vote, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was officially confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the Supreme Court. When Judge Jackson is sworn in later this summer, she will be the first Black woman to ever serve on the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson is an accomplished lawyer, public defender, and distinguished federal judge, and she showed incredible grace and poise throughout this process even when confronted with unfair, vicious attacks from Senate Republicans. Read my full statement on this historic victory here.
Governor Murphy is continuing to tour the state to discuss his budget plan, which would increase funding for public schools by $650 million from already historic levels. This week, the Governor visited Chatham High School to see first-hand the positive impact that additional school funding is having on communities throughout the state. Education is the key to our state’s future, and Governor Murphy’s commitment to that value is unquestionable.
Over the coming weeks we will be highlighting New Jersey’s excellent Congressional Democrats heading into their re-election campaigns this Fall. Today, we are spotlighting Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, who represents the 11th District. Congresswoman Sherrill has authored 20 pieces of bipartisan legislation, invested in infrastructure, and worked to strengthen our economy and lower taxes for the middle class. As a veteran and a mother, she is a strong voice for New Jersey families in Washington.

President Barack Obama returned to the White House this week to stand with President Biden and Vice President Harris and announce new executive action to improve the Affordable Care Act and help 200,000 families gain health insurance. President Biden’s decisive action on this issue will help these families immeasurably, giving them the financial stability and peace of mind that comes with having affordable health care. This is the kind of leadership we can expect from Democrats — while Congressional Republicans are once again vowing to repeal Obamacare, President Biden and Democrats are strengthening it.

P.S. — A few weeks ago we began an exciting initiative that we believe will make our Democratic Party stronger and more reflective of our nation’s diversity, by officially asking DNC Chair Jaime Harrison to allow New Jersey to move its Presidential Primary earlier to become one of the first in the nation. Now, a new poll shows that most New Jersey residents and a strong majority of Democrats agree. This is welcome news and more momentum for our push to make sure our nominating process reflects the diversity that New Jersey embodies.
